Tarsorrhapy stitches did not
break down as the dog was
warded at Toa Payoh Vets for
10 days as the owner does
not know how to care for the
stitched eye. The dog was
confined and did not object
to eye cleaning and
medication at Toa Payoh
Vets.
Tarsorrhapy by Vet 1 stitch breakdown
on Day 7. The owner
wanted the dog home on the day of surgery
against medical advice and complained that
the eye was swollen and bleeding on Day 2.
She did not bring the dog down when I asked
her to do so. Seven days later, she had to
bring the dog down when the stitch broke
down and I insisted on her doing so. At
home, the dog was free to wander around and
resisted any family member putting in eye
drops and cleaning the operated eye. Stitch
breakdown occurs and Vet 1's competence was
questioned. This was not fair to Vet 1 as
the owner did not want the dog to be warded
for at least 3 days for post-op care and did
not bring the dog back for a check up when
she complained about the eye swelling and
bleeding.
