Tree Of Life For
Animals (TOLFA)
Dear ....
Your mum has less resistance if you really provide
the info about health and hygiene. Furthermore I
told her it is an English "charity" but she did
not really bother to look into more details about
the TOLFA.
Yes, she has agreed with me that we can't impose
our values and concerns on you, an adult. It is
just fate if you fall ill and die. We will bear
the loss as we can't force you not to go.
I told your mum about the Singaporean lawyer who
went to Mumbai to attend a conference. She was
killed in her hotel by the terrorists who came in
by boat. I don't know if you have read about it.
"This is fated," I said to your mum. Obviously, as
parents, we don't want you or my children to be
exposed to dangers of infectious and contagious
diseases anywhere you visit.
But then, we as parents, are not the action type.
So, I will talk to your mum again. She promised
to send me the email about accommodation and
health at TOLFA. But so far, nothing.
P.S. The mum is worried about the daughter
getting infectious and contagious diseases in
India as a result of working in an animal shelter.
This is the core of her objections and she asked
me to help support her to dissuade the daughter's
"adventure" saying that practical experience in
TOLFA work will not be relevant to her in
Singapore. She missed the daughter's desire. The
daughter is more socially conscious and is an
animal activist, caring for homeless kittens when
she was younger.
"I don't even do voluntary work in Singapore," the
mum said to me when I phoned her about her
daughter's wish to gain practical veterinary
experience in India at the TOLFA. "Yet you produce
a socially conscious daughter who is interested in
animal activism," I said. "The more you object,
the more she would want to go. She is no more a
little girl now. So you may as well review the
TOLFA and understand more about her aspirations -
her wish to change the world, a little at a time.
If fate like a contagious disease takes her away
from this world as a consequence of her animal
activism, so be it. This is her life." |
